 Charles Brandon, episode 1x5 "The Tudors" MUSE PREMISE // This muse is Charles Brandon, an AU modernised and current day version of the Duke of Suffolk in the TV show, The Tudors. He is here as the Second-in-Charge to English millionaire CEO, and playboy  Henry Tudor. Charles is Henry's best friend since childhood, closest confidante, and most-trusted employee... but they harbour a secret that they have been working distinctly to keep concealed for years for the sake of their reputation in England's high profile social circles. They have been secret lovers since college, something that proves to be both a blessing and a curse for them in the cutthroat socialite world where appearances and family obligations are the be all and end all. BACKGROUND // Charles was born and raised in Suffolk, England, to middle-class parents, William and Elizabeth Brandon. He was an only child, and tragically lost both parents in a car accident and he was twelve years old. With no other known family to take him in, Charles faced becoming a ward of the state and being placed in foster care. He was saved from the trauma of being an orphan, however, when his parents' closest friends took him in and raised him alongside their own son, Henry. Henry and Charles were already close friends, and although they occasionally clashed both being strong personalities, they were always close. Following attending Oxford University together, Henry stepped into his father's shoes and took over as CEO of the multi-million pound family company in London, and just like Charles' own father was 2IC to Henry's father before his death, Henry insisted Charles step up as his vice... despite Charles trying to initially protest. Although he worked as a security guard for Henry's father's company during college to pay his way and not have to rely on Henry's parents, Charles wanted to join the Royal Air Force to become a pilot, but Henry managed to talk him out of it with the allure of the profitable 2IC position which would not only give him a very healthy income, but a lot of social standing. They found a niche together, however, but that was likely more factored to the chemistry they had together in their personal life. A fact not even their parents were aware of, both Henry and Charles deeply loved each other and had been sleeping together since college after a drunken encounter at a party. Their sexuality was never something they pointedly discussed, and in public, both are assumed to be straight. Henry has always been insistent that he needs to marry and have a son to carry on the family name, and although Charles was never particularly bothered by that, he was still very much a known player with a highly promiscuous reputation with the ladies. Just from the sheer enjoyment Charles gets out of sex, he is pretty sure he is bisexual. Henry is the only male he has ever had sex with, and that is a fact likely to remain. They continue their tryst in secret, having passionate encounters behind closed doors whenever they get the chance. Outwardly, however, they are both sought after bachelors, still having relationships with woman for appearance sakes. A fact which is ever an irritating factor to both men when jealousy rears its ugly head when they have to witness each other in relationships with other people. Never having the balls to approach his feelings too deeply with Henry, Charles knows Henry is the only person he has ever truly loved, but with Henry's determination to carry on his family line, he knows he will never be able to give him what he desires... a fact which hangs heavily on Charles' heart on a regular basis. The only time things took a near-tragic turn in their relationship, both personal and professional, and nearly destroyed their friendship was when Charles struck up a relationship with Henry's younger sister, Margaret. While Charles never really fell in love with her, he adored her and they had a lot of fun together. Though to this day, he wondered if he was just projecting what he really wanted to have with Henry. After a whirlwind romance where Charles showered Margaret with affection, they took a trip to America together for Valentine's Day and ended up getting drunk and eloping in Vegas. While Henry disapproved of the relationship, convincing himself that Charles was a terrible match for his sister, he tolerated the romance for fear of losing Charles. It took a bad turn once he heard of the marriage, and it ended in a furious showdown between the two men where Henry demanded Charles get the marriage anulled, or he would never speak to Charles again and would ruin him. Charles had no choice, and soon got the marriage annulled with resulted in Margaret moving to Paris to live. It took at least a year for things to return to normal between the two childhood friends, but after that mess, they eventually fell back into their old familiar rhythm but it remains to be seen if that will continue, with Henry starting a new fling with none other than London socialite, Anne Boleyn... a woman Charles has hated with a passion for some time. OOC NOTES// This muse is AU and a modern version from the period drama, The Tudors. Everything here is my own interpretation of what Charles may be like in modern day. His PB remains to be Henry Cavill, who portrayed Charles in the show.
